Welcome to Namutebi Aids Foundation

Welcome to the Namutebi Aids Foundation! We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. Our foundation was established with a strong belief in the importance of comprehensive support, raising awareness, and advocating for the rights of those impacted by the disease.

Driven by this mission, the Namutebi Aids Foundation was founded. Our goal is to provide comprehensive support and resources to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, as well as their families. We understand the emotional and physical challenges that come with the disease, and we strive to offer a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where everyone feels understood and supported.

FOUNDER’S STORY

Joanita Wanyana Riley

At the age of just 17, I experienced a life-changing moment when I tragically lost my beloved mother to HIV/AIDS. While I don’t want to delve into the details and bore you, it was a devastating experience that took me time to process. The stigma surrounding the disease continues to persist for generations, as I discovered through my firsthand research conducted in 2017 within marginalized communities where poverty rates are high and access to information is scarce.

Watching my mother battle the disease, experiencing strokes, rapid weight loss, and a declining immune system on a daily basis, was incredibly heart-wrenching. However, I was fortunate to have the unwavering support of my extended family throughout her journey. Inspired by my personal experience, I became determined to learn more about the disease and find ways to prevent new infections. I believe that everyone should have the right to access necessary healthcare services and receive vital information regarding HIV/AIDS.

Currently residing in the USA, I have actively immersed myself in understanding the experiences of marginalized groups, particularly the LGBTQ+ community, who are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. Unlike my home country of Uganda, where discussing one’s HIV status freely remains challenging, I have been overwhelmed by the acceptance and openness surrounding the disease here in the USA. This exposure has provided me with valuable insights and a greater understanding of the importance of proactive measures to combat HIV/AIDS.

Motivated by my personal journey and experiences, I founded the Namutebi Aids Foundation. Our aim is to address the profound impact of HIV/AIDS by providing comprehensive support, raising awareness, and advocating for the rights of individuals affected by the disease. We strive to ensure that vital information and services are accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances.

At Namutebi Aids Foundation, we firmly believe in empowering individuals, eradicating stigma, and working together to create a world where HIV/AIDS is no longer a burden. Join us in our mission to make a difference and inspire hope in the lives of those affected by this disease. I dedicate this foundation to all those that have been affected by HIV/aids but most importantly my deceased parents.in memory of my mother Namutebi Fortunate Stellah and Father Africa Sam Lutwama.
